St. Francis transfer lefty Derron Swanson will make his Indiana debut as the opener in today's game. He made a pair of exhibition outings in the fall. Swanson opened the second games against both Louisville and Cincinnati, allowing 6 runs in 2.0 innings of work. In the intrasquad series that follow he allowed just one unearned run in 3.0 innings of work. To get an opening assignment here, after not playing yet in the spring, likely means he's shown progress in practice.

Swanson did a great job of mixing up his pitches, getting three strikeouts. His only blemish was an 0-2 breaking ball hung high in the zone that Sycamore’s best hitter Carlos Pena muscled over the infield for a single. Swanson knew he missed his spot, but no damage.

Lead-off walk leads to a run with 2-out RBI double. Groundout to first ends the inning. Hoosiers still lead.
Swanson’s second out was a looking strikeout. He’s K’d four Trees in two innings.

Another 1-2-3 inning. Including the double play that ended the first, that’s 7 straight Hoosiers set down. The missed opportunity with bases loaded in the first looms over this.

Another 0-2 hanger is the third Sycamore hit. This one leads off the inning. Pete Haas tossing in the Hoosier bullpen as a sac bunt puts the runner on second with one out.

Hoosier flamethrower Will Eldridge is the new pitcher.

After a groundout Eldridge losses the zone on a five pitch walk. This prompts a mound visit from pitching coach Dustin Glant. Eldridge remains as Haas gets hit in the bullpen.

The command issues for Eldridge continue. A full count walk has Glant go to Haas to try to retain the lead with two on and one out.
