Ryan Kraft gets the ball as was generally expected. The issue is that he didn't have his best stuff on short rest in Ann Arbor on Thursday and will be back on just 4-days rest to start this one. The team has hinted this one is all hands on deck. The Hoosiers get two days off after this00, so using a lot of guys in short stints would not be massively harmful for trying to win the tournament.
Indiana must go 4-0 (winning this tourney) this week to make the NCAA Tournament.

One interesting thing in the lineup is the movement of Tyler Cerny to 8th in the lineup. Cerny has been relatively hot as of late. Perhaps putting him after Wiggins creates a little on-base/pop combo at the bottom of the order. This gives some threats to score throughout the lineup.

What to know about Pool Play format. Indiana and Rutgers are in Pool C with 3-seed Iowa. For either Indiana or Rutgers to advance to the 4-team semi-finals Saturday, they must win both this game, and their game with Iowa. Iowa, as the higher seed, only needs to win their game with the winner of today's game.
Iowa will still play the loser, but that will be considered a "dead game" as it will have no consequence on the result of the tournament.
Iowa now does not have a legit shot at an at-large bid either, so they will have no incentive to use any trusted pitching against the loser of this one.

RHP and freshman Landon Mack will toe the rubber for the Scarlet Knights. Mack, like Kraft, started on Thursday. He gave up 11 hits, but managed to limit Maryland to just 3 runs in 5.1 innings of work.

In a rally killing play, Cerny is fooled and doesn't even slide on a pick-off attempt. It looked close to a balk on the replay, but the runner has to try to get under the tag. Jeff Mercer elected to challenge it as the tag was a bit high, but the replay shows the play was made. Two outs. This is devasting to an offense desperate to get a run on the board.

As much as the social narrative around Indiana baseball is around the struggles on the mound because of a few high-profile blow-ups, I really feel Indiana has struggled in scoring runs with opportunities in close games. This has lead to more games lost. Kraft is throwing a great game and going deep, but the Hoosier are now facing then end of their season because the offense cannot produce.

This situation is huge. Kraft needs to get this out to keep the deficit at just two runs. It's not the Indiana can't produce a crooked number, but I fear psychologically that the offense will not respond well if the Hoosier fall further behind.
