entry by Carl - April 17, 2025, 1:33 p.m.:

Accuweather says chances of rain on Saturday between 2p-10p are in the 50-70% range. Friday is looking a lot better, especially early Friday. Given the scheduling history so far and assuming Maryland is flying in tonight (Thursday) I am predicting (without any word from the program) that there will be a 2pm double-header on Friday and this game (GAME 1) of the series will be at 2pm.

entry by Carl - April 17, 2025, 6:16 p.m.:

Official word from the program as of now is that the series will retain the original schedule, so the series is set to start at 6pm Friday.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:24 a.m.:

Forecast for 6pm is partly sunny, 75°F wind blowing out to left field at 18mph with gusts up to 35. It will likely be a very offensive day, which may give the Terps an advantage. It may also help Devin Taylor to get his IU career record breaking 48th home run this evening.

Saturday is forecasted for morning storms and afternoon rain. The team release stated, "the Hoosiers hope to get all games played on a normal schedule for the first time at home this season. The first three Big Ten home weekends of the year all featured doubleheaders. The rest of the weekend is tentatively scheduled for Saturday (2:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.)."

The slightly cooler, damper weather Saturday and Sunday probably plays into Indiana's hands better for the remainder of the weekend.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 5:24 p.m.:

On site at the Bart. The wind is blowing out hard. Will be a very offensive day. Hoosiers will open with Jackson Yarberry on the bump. I would assume that Ryan Kraft will be expected to carry a lot of the innings tonight, unless things were to go far south early.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 5:34 p.m.:

Notables from the starting lineup:

Caleb Koskie gets the start in right field batting fifth. Hogan Denny bats behind Koskie as the designated hitter. TJ Schuyler is catching and batting ninth tonight. These are all right handed bats likely to counter lefty Maryland starter Kyle McCoy.

One exception to this is lefty hitter Will Moore is starting at third base. Righty Jasen Oliver started there Tuesday.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 5:50 p.m.:

Indiana is in their new cream uniforms with crimson lettering and gold numbers. They wear their white cap with crimson IU trident in this combination.

Maryland is in red with white pants. Personal opinion: white pants should not be worn by a team in a true road game.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 5:56 p.m.:

AccuWeather is now predicting a 51% chance of rain in each of the first two hours of the game. Indiana has a noted history of success playing Maryland in the rain at Bart Kaufman Field.

End of top of inning 1 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 0 runs | 0 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 0 runs | 0 hits | 0 errors

Yarberry works around a two-out unintentional intentional walk of Chris Hacopian to allow no damage in the first.

End of bottom of inning 1 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 0 runs | 0 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 0 runs | 1 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:20 p.m.:

Jake Hanley’s two-out single is all the Hoosiers manage in the first.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:23 p.m.:

A 4-pitch lead off walk. Will Moore ⭐️ makes a great stab at third to get the lead runner for the first out.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:30 p.m.:

A double puts two in scoring position with two outs. Ryan Kraft is tossing in the Hoosiers bullpen.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:31 p.m.:

Yarberry walks the bases loaded. Dustin Glant out for a talk while Kraft continues to throw.

End of top of inning 2 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 4 runs | 2 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 0 runs | 1 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:37 p.m.:

Yarberry gives up a grand slam. Hoosiers in a huge hole.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:42 p.m.:

Understanding this a series the Hoosiers really need to sweep (not just win) they go to Ryan Kraft. Got to be some questions about handing the ball to Kraft two weeks in a row with the team in a hole facing a very effective and efficient arm.

Mercer hinted at Illinois last week that they might hold Kraft if the game was out of hand. Given Indiana’s struggles in coming back this season, one could argue this one is already out of hand. But they go to him anyway.

End of top of inning 3 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 5 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 0 runs | 1 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:48 p.m.:

Kraft allows two singles and a run.

Bottom of inning 3 with 2 outs:

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 5 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 3 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:58 p.m.:

Jake Hanley drives in a run after singles by Devin Taylor and Korbyn Dickerson.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 6:59 p.m.:

Cerny is plunked to load the bases again.

End of bottom of inning 3 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 5 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 3 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:03 p.m.:

Opportunity is mostly squandered. Maryland cashed in their two-out bases loaded situation. Indiana let McCoy off the hook. Hoosiers get the one run from the third back, but the grand slam is still the difference.

End of top of inning 4 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 5 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 3 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:08 p.m.:

A two-out walk is stranded when Devin Taylor collects a hard hit ball on the warning track.

End of bottom of inning 4 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 5 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 3 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:18 p.m.:

A walk and a hit-by-pitch adds more stress to McCoy who is now at 52 pitches through 4 innings. Taylor strikes out to end the inning.

Top of inning 5 with 0 outs:

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 5 runs | 1 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 3 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:28 p.m.:

A two-out double is stranded. He was almost thrown out at second after a great bare-hand off the wall by Devin Taylor, but the throw was just enough to the right to allow the runner to get in. Kraft got the next batter.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:29 p.m.:

Indiana needs to show it can string some hits together here and put up a crooked number.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:30 p.m.:

Dickerson is seeing McCoy well. Rips a double to center.

End of top of inning 5 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 5 runs | 5 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:38 p.m.:

Dickerson’s lead off double is wasted. Lots of soft contact as McCoy keeps mixing his pitches well. A little bit of stress, but probably not enough to see much of the Maryland bullpen tonight. Indiana is going to have to find a way through soon.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:39 p.m.:

Kraft allows a soft hit single to start the 6th. He’s now at 60 pitches.

Ryan Rushing and Ben Grable are stretching.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:41 p.m.:

A one out walk puts two Terps on base. This prompts a visit from Dustin Glant.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:53 p.m.:

Jacob Vogel is now throwing. Which is very concerning, given the offense inability to get anything going. They talk about using these leverage arms in winning times. This doesn’t seem like that situation.

End of bottom of inning 6 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 5 runs | 6 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 7:54 p.m.:

Hoosiers completely fail to stress McCoy. He’s at 81 pitches after 6 innings.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:01 p.m.:

Caleb Koskie ⭐️ saves extra bases with a catch on the warning track. A single is ripped. Kraft at 85 pitches and Maryland is seeing him better now.

Top of inning 7 with 1 outs:

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:04 p.m.:

A double makes it a 5 run lead. With two on, Vogel now pitching. This is a huge gamble burning a key arm in a game down 5 runs with only 9 outs to play with.

End of top of inning 7 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:07 p.m.:

Vogel takes three pitches to escape the rest of the jam.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:11 p.m.:

It’s stretch time. More importantly, it’s time for the Hoosier bats to get hot and put up a crooked number to justify the aggressive pitching decisions.

End of bottom of inning 7 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:15 p.m.:

McCoy struck out the side. At this point the Hoosiers are going to have at most 6 outs against the bullpen with a mountain to climb. Still Vogel is out for more work. Likely burning him up for the whole weekend.

End of top of inning 8 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 4 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:25 p.m.:

Vogel works around two walks and strands them.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:26 p.m.:

Maryland is sticking with McCoy at 97 pitches. Likely a sign of the faith they have in their bulllen. Indiana needs to get to him quickly here to have any shot.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:28 p.m.:

Hanley rips a single.

Bottom of inning 8 with 0 outs:

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 1 runs | 6 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:33 p.m.:

Tyler Cerny double finally runs McCoy after 7 very effective innings.

Terps turn to another lefty.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:37 p.m.:

Koskie strikes out. Out of six pitches, only one was off speed.

Bottom of inning 8 with 1 outs:

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 0 errors

  • Hoosiers: 3 runs | 7 hits | 0 errors

COOPER MALAMAZIAN 2-RUN 💣

It’s a 1-run game.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:46 p.m.:

Will Moore walks and now the tying run is on base for Maryland’s right handed reliever. Jake Stadler steps in.

Bottom of inning 8 with 2 outs:

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 1 errors

  • Hoosiers: 6 runs | 9 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:53 p.m.:

Dickerson's chopper can't be played! Tie Game!!!

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:54 p.m.:

They have proved my pitching complaints wrong as they have stormed back in this.

End of bottom of inning 8 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 1 errors

  • Hoosiers: 6 runs | 9 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:57 p.m.:

Hanley goes down swinging, but the Hoosiers head to the 9th in a tie game.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 8:59 p.m.:

Hoosiers go to Ben Grable to keep it tied. He could go multiple if the game isn’t decided this inning.

End of top of inning 9 :

Team Totals:

  • Terrapins: 6 runs | 8 hits | 1 errors

  • Hoosiers: 6 runs | 9 hits | 0 errors

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 9:06 p.m.:

Ben Grable throws 94-95 heat, strikes out two in an electric 1-2-3 inning.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 9:07 p.m.:

Hoosiers need just one to walk this off.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 9:10 p.m.:

Tyler Cerny gets plunked. He represents the winning run.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 9:13 p.m.:

An errant pick off throw puts Cerny 90. feet away with no outs. Koskie is plunked. Joey Brenczewski pinch hitting.

entry by Carl - April 18, 2025, 9:16 p.m.:

Joey B. strikes out. Malamazian up with one out.
